Year 2 Pupils Visit National Archives at Kew

Year 2 pupils visited The National Archives in order to deepen their knowledge about the Great Fire of London.

The workshop took place in the Education Room at The National Archives in Kew; a pupil-friendly, welcoming, purpose built classroom, equipped with a SMART board.

This session introduced pupils to The National Archives and to some of the famous documents connected with the Great Fire of London. Pupils were introduced to primary source materials as they investigated what happened in 1666 and developed their skills of historical enquiry.

This workshop helped children to focus on significant events beyond living memory.

It also had a focus on spoken English.

As you can see on the pictures all the pupils enjoyed the enquiry-based session aiming to deepen their understanding of evidence and develop their skills of analysis.

Connections to the curriculum: History, English (spoken language).
